The real history behind the story
What most of us were never taught
The Thread That Holds is a thriller rooted in real history — the kind that rarely makes it into a classroom. Here is some of the history behind it.
1793
The cotton gin
Eli Whitney’s machine made short-staple cotton profitable to clean at scale. Instead of fading, slavery in the American South expanded to grow it.
1803
The Barbary coast
In October 1803 the frigate USS Philadelphia ran aground off Tripoli. Its crew of about 300 was held captive until 1805.
1831
Enslaved Muslim scholars
Many Africans enslaved in the Americas were Muslim, and some were trained scholars. Omar ibn Said, enslaved in North Carolina, wrote his life story in Arabic in 1831.

It is the reflective philosophy at the core of the initiative — the recognition that we see ourselves in one another. Your growth and mine are bound together; integrity practiced toward others is integrity practiced toward the self.
Founding Member is the Sovereign tier held on its pre-release founder rate of $149 per year — a recurring annual contribution, not a one-time payment. It carries a permanent badge, a seat on the Founding Member Council, full platform access, and governance voting rights for as long as the membership stays active. Founding spots are intentionally limited.
No. SIC does not harvest books. The library is built from SIC-owned content, approved excerpts, public/allowed passages, philosophy documents, community resources, and PDFs uploaded by SIC admins — all within a clean, conventional reader experience.
Donations and memberships directly fund the movement: the platform, programs, reading rooms, and the Community Cleanup Fund. Members receive transparent donation history and receipts inside the app.
